The fourth graders had to do some problem solving and cooperating to figure out this challenge. They hopefully learned the value of cooperation in regard to their health.
The first and third graders were able to enjoy a sun safety lesson by Mr. Martin Touhey from the Children's Melanoma Prevention Foundation. The student's learned a lot about how to stay safe in the sun during summer months but also during the fall and spring as well.We are very fortunate to have the Abington Fire Department come each year to teach our students about fire safety. The SAFE program helps children become "junior firefighters" and encourages them to go home and teach others about fire safety. Please check your smoke detectors and create a home escape plan with your children.
First and second grade had loads of fun taking turns bowling. This helped them with skills such as rolling the ball, aiming at a target, and taking turns.
Can you aim at a target? Can you use a scoop? Can you use a launcher? These were some of the questions that were answered when we played Angry Birds--the PE version.
Bodies and minds connect in this fun game I found on the internet! Teams took turns placing scarves in hula hoops to try to get three in a row. It was challenging to remember to block the opposing team while also trying to win the game!
As many of the students know, dancing is my favorite way to get exercise. However, I know that dancing is not everyone's favorite thing to do. I try my best to make it as painless as possibly by choosing a variety of fun dances that may appeal to everyone. For the next few weeks we will be doing a variety of different types of dance including: Fitness Dances, Zumba, Line Dances, Just Dance, Square Dance, and Freestyle. So far, the children have been having a blast and working up quite a sweat! Don't forget to wear comfortable clothes and sneakers :)
Students learned about the immune system by drawing a castle (their body), a wall (their skin), invaders (germs), and a variety of soldiers (cells in their immune system). They enjoyed the activity and learned a lot as well!
